Training

Training is available on Friday 27 September, and also in the afternoon on Thursday 26 September with prior arrangement with the Organising Committee. Team Managers have been contacted to request training slots and these will be allocated fairly with notifications sent by the end of August. On Friday, the Organising Committee has hired the PierView Room for use by all teams, volunteers and support staff. The PierView room is about 5 minutes away from the course by foot – simply walk along the beach towards Boscombe Pier. The space is ideal for team meetings, rest between training sessions and also provides a place to eat or shelter. Teams may bring their own food and drinks (there is a fridge, freezer, microwave and source of hot water) or can purchase from The Prom Diner next door. Full details of the room are available here.

Boats & oars

The supplied boats will be made by Swift. All crews shall use these shared boats allocated by the

organising committee.

The boats will be set to the same parameters:

• Span - 158 cm

• Gates set to max height with round washers, no clips.

• Seats - lowest seats will be in boats, athletes can request different seats.

• Wing riggers to be positioned closest to bows.

• Identical shoes in each boat.

Teams shall bring and use their own oars.

Rules of Racing

The Match will be run under the World Rowing Rules of Racing; Appendices R18 and R19 cover specific rule variations

for Coastal and Beach Sprints competitions. There are limited exceptions/variations to the World Rowing Rules of Racing for this Match and are detailed here.

Teams should specifically note the following rules which were added to the World Rowing Rules of

Racing in 2024:

• Boat handlers: Where there are two or more boat handlers, there must be at least one boat

handler who is a man and one boat handler who is a woman.

• For Mixed events, excluding para events, the runners at the start and the finish must be two different runners with one runner being a man and the other runner being a woman.

HIR Governance information, including athlete eligibility rules, is available here.

Team Managers are strongly encouraged to read all rules and documentation carefully. Please contact Jen Thomson if there are any queries.
